31st October 2013 – Concern for Community

The students of classes VI – X from Sachdeva Global School adopted a society park and went on a plantation drive to samrat ashoka enclave, sec-18, Dwarka.

A group of 20 students went there and owned 1 – 2 plants each. The head of the school Mrs. Novita Chopra and Academic Supervisor, Sumana Dutta initiated the drive by planting the first tree in the garden. We planted different types of palms, ashoka trees.

The students will be going to the society once a week for the maintenance of the plants. It was a small initiative by the eco club members for the betterment of our environment.

We believe in M. K. Gandhi who rightly said “Be the change you want to see in the world”

31st October 2013 – Sky Observation Over Night Session

Sky observations have always been an integral part of an astronomer’s to –do list. The heavens above are a storehouse of mysteries, waiting to be unveiled. Astronomy club students got the opportunity to explore the countless beauties that adorn the night sky. On 31st October 2013 students were taken to Sariska (Tiger Den Resort) for sky observation over night session. The session started with venus observation and orientation of site. Students then enjoyed the dinner in the pleasant weather of sariska. Planispheres were given to them and they learnt how to read it. Using same planisphere they started their challenge of constellation hunting. They viewed Galaxies, Nebulae, Star Clusters, Jupiter, Mars, Moon and Constellations etc. Observing the changed sky on 1st November 2013, early morning was the best experience for the students. It was the wonderful chance for our young astronomers to venture into the fascinating world of astronomy.

October 2013 – Environmental Issues and Concerns - Street Play

“Resource Conservation”

At SGS we understand, appreciate and value our green gold (environment). It is important that this precious gift is nurtured, preserved and reserved for the next generation. To ensure our students become global green citizens, they are sensitized through awareness programmes and practice and preach the golden rule – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. They regularly conduct street plays in public areas to sensitize the community about the importance of environment.

October 2013 – Innovative Teaching Learning Methodologies – Summarizations of learnings

At the end of each lesson/subtopic, students summarize and dramatize their learning. This extremely interactive and enjoyable experience ensures thorough learning and retention. The facilitator only aides in co-planning and structuring the summarization; it is completely executed by the students on their own.

31st October 2013 - Personality Development Workshop

Sachdeva Global School conducted a ‘Personality Development Workshop’ for the students of classes IX-XII on 31 October 2013. The resource person for this session was Lt. Col. Raja Dutta who is an Artillery Officer of the Indian Army. The session began with an interactive and vibrant discussion of what the word “personality” means to students. The speaker talked about dreams and aspirations instilling the message that, goals are nothing but dreams with deadlines. An introduction to what encompasses the domain of personality was talked about in order to give a better understanding of the topic and for the students to personalize this learning experience. Lt. Col. Dutta divided his speech into two main parts: ‘Dynamics of Self’ and ‘Group Dynamics’.

In the “Dynamics of Self”, intriguing questions like, ‘Who am I?’, ‘What is my personality?’, ‘Do I have a balanced personality?’, ‘How to undertake self development?’ etc. were thrown to the audience to talk about. Key importance was given to increased self-awareness and the need to understand oneself better. Different personality types were talked about, where the audience was asked to recognize which is their personality type.

After this lively and interesting introduction, the speaker went on to elaborate on the need for self-awareness where each person needs to explore his/ her individual personality, value systems, beliefs and natural tendencies. He spoke about how each person is unique and emphasized on the need for self-reflection to gain better insight. The speaker spoke of five areas of self awareness which were: core self evaluation, values, learning style, attitude towards change, and emotional intelligence. He challenged the audience to move towards greater self awareness in their personal lives to be able to understand one’s strengths and plan better while making personal goals. The speaker spoke about the various defensive techniques people take when they encounter conflicting information about their self-concept and he encouraged students to allow significant others to provide insight into our own behaviors to better their understanding of themselves. The speaker also enlightened the audience with a technique to understand personality which is called ‘SWOT Analysis’. Under the larger umbrella of personality development, the speaker went on to talk about the various realms of the individual which included the mental, physical, social, spiritual and emotional aspects. The speaker also brought forth the gender differences on how boys and girls typically react under different circumstances. He encouraged the students to build their confidence by inculcating good habits of cleanliness, exercise, dressing sharply, speaking up, expressing gratitude, complimenting others, etc.

After having brainstormed on different personality types, the speaker enlightened the students with personality tips like not comparing one’s life with others, having positive thoughts, understanding one’s limitations, avoiding gossip and working on dreams when awake. He also talked about self-motivation being a state of mind which one must try to be in always to be successful in life. The speaker also stressed on the pressing need of time management in today’s busy world scenario. He spoke about the importance of time and how to manage and prioritize to ensure a productive use of one’s time and energy.

Lt. Col. Dutta also emphasizes on the pressing need of effective communication between individuals to improve relationships, avoid conflicts and establish successful passing of information from one individual to the other. He also highlighted the need to listen, understand non-verbal cues, manage stress and be emotionally aware. Thus, the speaker ended this highly interactive workshop encouraging the students to emulate what they have learnt and grow as individuals who are responsible to oneself and to others.

31st October 2013 – National Integration Day

A special assembly was presented by the students of class I A on 31st October 2013. The theme of the assembly was ‘National Integration Day’. The students gave an introduction about the theme by telling the literal meaning of National Integration. Some of the students sang a melodious song ‘Hind Desh Ke Niwashi Sabhi Jan Ek Hain’ which depicts the concept of ‘Unity in Diversity’. It was followed by the ‘Thought of the Day’ and distribution of certificates for the event ‘Moral Story Tellin Competition’ of class II. The efforts of the students were praised by the head of the school Mrs. Novita Chopra.

30th October 2013 - ANTI CRACKER CAMPAIGN


Crackers hold a fascination for both young and old alike. Children being the largest consumers of crackers, need to be educated about its harmful after effects to their health and environment. Taking up this cause Sachdeva Global School decided to organize an anti-cracker Campaign.

On 30th October 2013, Eco Club students went out to Sector -6 market holding banners and placards denouncing the use of crackers and even approaching shopkeepers not to sell noisy and polluting crackers. 35 students took part in it. They shouted slogans and gave message to the society for not polluting the air by bursting crackers. They also took the pledge to save the environment by not making air and noise pollution on Diwali. They decided not to buy crackers and money saved so will be utilized productively. They also staged a street play for raising public awareness about environmental degradation due to bursting of crackers. Students also did a survey wherein they spoke to the crackers sellers and found that every year the sell of crackers is being decreased by 20% and this change is the result of awareness programmes only.

30th October 2013 – Inter House Dance Competition

An Inter House Dance Competition was organized on 30th October 2013. The atmosphere was one of jubilation and excitement with the students participating in huge numbers. The first prize was won by Glory House followed by Pride and Harmony. It was an exciting event with students participating in huge numbers.

29th October 2013 - Annual Athletic Meet 2013-2014

Sachdeva Global School organized its Annual Athletic Meet on 29th October 2013. This much awaited event was graced by two esteemed guests Mr. Anil Sachdeva (Vice Chairman, Sachdeva Global School) and Mrs. Kiran Gambhir (Advisor, Sachdeva Group of Schools), who were cordially welcomed by the Head of the school, Mrs Novita Chopra.. The day began with the Mr. Anil Sachdeva declaring the meet open by lighting the torch and the Sports Captain Ankur Yadav and Vice Sports Captains- Sahil Gulia and Shubham Singh finishing the inaugural run.

The next event that highlighted the meet was the cultural extravaganza where the passion and determination of our teachers and the love of sports in our students was displayed artistically. The first performance was by the team of highly skilled and talented skaters who gave a thunderous performance displaying coordination, flexibility, stamina and creativity. Our brave taekwondo students were next in portraying strength and endurance through their combat and self-defense techniques. The third performance was by our yoga students who showcased different body postures thus capturing the essence of the ancient art to maintain good health. The final cultural event was presented by the aerobics students who exercised to the tune of music and spread the message of staying fit and healthy.

This cultural spectrum was followed by the address of Mr. Anil Sachdeva and Mrs. Kiran Gambhir who shared their words of wisdom to encourage and motivate our students. This marked the beginning of the competitions for the day. Various types of races for the junior school were conducted by our physical education teachers. The ''heats'' for the same had been conducted in the month of September and only the finalists participated on the day of the meet. Many creative races were conducted and the talent of our tiny tots was displayed. After the close of the races of our junior school, the talent of our brimming buds was acknowledged in the prize distribution ceremony where the honourable guests gave away the prizes. The races for the senior classes were also conducted with much enthusiasm and team spirit. This was followed by the prize distribution ceremony. At the end, a vote of thanks was given by Academic Supervisor, Mrs Sumana Dutta. Thus the meet ended with zeal to strive towards higher degrees of sportsmanship and will- power.

28th October 2013 – Logo’s and Punch Lines (Class I)

An interclass quiz competition was held on 28th October, 2013 based on the theme: Logos and Punchlines. Twelve students were selected for the competition on the basis of their individual performance in the preliminary round. Six teams of two students each participated in the quiz. They were asked to identify logos and punch lines of different brands and advertisements such as ‘Eat Healthy, Think Better’. Daag Achche Hain’ etc. They were also asked to identify cartoon characters and super heroes like Doraemon, Spiderman etc.

There was a healthy competition amongst all the team. It was a great learning experience for the students as they enjoyed the quiz very much.

28th October 2013 – Logo’s and Punch Lines (Class II)

The final round of the quiz based on logos and punch lines was held on 28th October 2013. Twelve students were selected based on their individual performance of the preliminary round held on 21st October 2013.

The children were divided into 6 teams of 2 each. There were seven rounds in all to test the general awareness of children. The children were asked to identify logos and punch lines of different brands / companies like ‘Drive through’ ‘eat fresh’ drive your way’ etc. They were also shown logos of different cars, snacks, soups, mobile companies etc. and they had to identify the brand / company.

They were also asked to identify the personality endorsing different brands.

The participants as well as the spectators enjoyed the competition and it was a good learning experience for all.

24th October 2013 – Moral Story Telling Competition (Class I)

Stories with moral lessons teach children about being sensitive and accepting the values of friendship and loyalty, courage and honesty, overcoming obstacles and apologizing. In order to instill these positive values in the children a moral story telling competition was organized for the students of class I on 24th October 2013. Students participated with great enthusiasm and fervour. Some of them were dressed in appropriate costumes and carried props to depict their story.

This competition helped the children to understand moral values, good behaviour and positive character traits.

22nd October 2013 – Moral Story Telling Competition (Class II)

Every Story with a moral in scripts instills a thought in our mind – a thought of making our self a better human being. With a theme of inculcating moral values in the students a moral story telling competition was organized for the students of class II on 22nd October 2013. Beautiful moral tales and fables based on the themes like loyalty, love, courage strength and togetherness were presented by young students.

The children participated with great enthusiasm with them, which added beauty to their words.

The auditorium echod with the sounds of moral preaching as the children narrated and enacted their stories beautifully.

The competition was indeed a good learning experience for each one of us.

21st October 2013 – Techunt Genius Session

A Techunt Genius Session was conducted for the students of the classes XI – XII on 21st October 2013. The speaker for the session was Mr. Amit Grover who is an IIT Delhi and IIM Indore alumnus and CEO of Nurture Talent Academy.

The session started with an introductory talk followed by a video on various innovations made in recent past. The students were also involved in various creativity games which they thoroughly enjoyed.

The students were also guided on various career options based on their analytical skills, intent and creativity.

The workshop was very well taken by all the students.



21st October 2013 – Valmiki Jayanti

A special assembly on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti was organized. Presented by the students of class II C on 21st October 2013, the assembly was an effort to pay homage to the ‘Aadi Kavi’ (The first poet of Sanskrit Literature) Valmiki.

The recitation of beautiful Sanskrit verses added beauty to the morning assembly. The children also highlighted facts about the life of this great poet. They also unveiled the contribution of this great poet to Indian history and to the world of literature.

The whole class participated in the assembly. One of the child was dressed like valmiki and had the holy book ‘Ramayana’ in his hand. The children culminated the assembly by reciting a beautiful poem titled – ‘Aadi Kavi Valmiki’

The assembly was appreciated by the head of the school, Mrs. Novita Chopra.
